Tech & Spec Committee
The MaCAPA Tech & Spec Committee is open to all MaCAPA members who have an interest in learning or contributing to the material side of our industry association. We have committee members who represent ready-mix producers, cement manufacturers, aggregate suppliers and admixture companies. Together there is an incredible amount of experience and knowledge on every aspect on the material side of our business. The committee meets periodically throughout the year to discuss industry material related issues, new innovations, and challenges facing our industry. The committee also works extensively with the MassDOT Research & Materials group to discuss specification and materials changes, ongoing current issues, and to advocate for all members who supply MassDOT projects.
The relationship between the Tech & Spec Committee and MassDOT goes back decades and continues to evolve into a strong working partnership with the common goal to provide the best possible products to MassDOT projects across the state. In 2020 MassDOT released their new interim concrete sidewalk specification to the construction and materials industry. MaCAPA along with CIM, UCANE and MassDOT worked together over a 2-year period to develop the new specification. This included a sidewalk demo test site project made up of a variety of mix designs, finishes and cure methods that help provide us with important data for the creation of the new spec. The new spec was released in the fall of 2020 and the MaCAPA Tech & Spec Committee played an important role in the process.
